Welcome to Active Lifestyle and Wellness by Dr. Randy Provost. This is a project to help people feel better and be healthier through lifestyle and behavior. A physically active lifestyle is free medicine to treat and prevent a surprising spectrum of diseases. It is not too good to be true. A few basic but powerful healthy fitness behaviors really work. Here are some of the reasons that a doctor would write this blog.
• In addition to multiple health benefits, physically active people just feel better.
• Sedentary lifestyle is among the most serious and correctable health threats.
• We lose over $190 billion dollars a year in preventable US health care costs due inactivity and poor diet. It goes over $400 billion when figuring in the added costs of lost economic productivity due to the same illnesses.
• It’s costly, but also deadly. Experts estimate up to 300,000 preventable deaths annually. Epidemiologists tell us that diseases from inactivity and overnutrition are dominant killers. If we don’t change this today’s youth may be the first generation to live shorter lives than their parents.
